Math Foundations: The 'No-Mistakes' Arithmetic & Algebra Drill

Most marks in math exams aren't lost on the 'hard' questions—they're lost on basic arithmetic slips and sign errors in algebra. This drill is designed to reset your focus and sharpen your non-calculator accuracy.

1. Arithmetic: The BIDMAS/BODMAS Precision #

The Rule: Remember that Division/Multiplication and Addition/Subtraction are 'partner' operations. If they appear together, you must work strictly left to right.

Coach's Example: Evaluate 123+412 - 3 + 4

  • 1.
    This isn't 12(3+4)12 - (3 + 4).
  • 2.
    Work left to right: 123=912 - 3 = 9.
  • 3.
    Then 9+4=139 + 4 = 13.
  • Single choice

    2. Algebra: The 'Inverse' Method #

The Rule: Whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other. Always 'undo' the constant (the number by itself) before 'undoing' the coefficient (the number attached to xx).

    Coach's Example: Solve 4x+10=24x + 10 = 2

  • 1.
    Subtract 10 from both sides: 4x=84x = -8
  • 2.
    Divide both sides by 4: x=2x = -2

    3. Exam-Style Sprint (Non-Calculator) #

In an exam, you don't just need to be right; you need to be fast. Start the timer. If you finish with time left, re-check your signs.
