⏱️ Twenty-minute practice

  • 1.
Read and count · 3 min: name notes slowly; clap or tap the rhythm away from the keys.
  • 2.
Isolate · 5 min: practise the difficult hand or two-beat fragment at a pace with correct notes and comfortable movement.
  • 3.
Join · 5 min: add the beat before and after the fragment. Practise crossing the boundary, not merely repeating the easy start.
  • 4.
Combine · 5 min: play hands together more slowly. If errors repeat, simplify again rather than drilling the mistake.
  • 5.
Review · 2 min: play once from the passage start and record what changed.
  • Focused fragment practice

Increase pace only after several controlled repetitions. Tempo is a means of testing control, not the only measure of progress.

    🎹 Starter pattern

With the right hand, play the five adjacent white notes C–D–E–F–G slowly, then G–F–E–D–C. C is the white key immediately left of a group of two black keys. Use fingers 1–2–3–4–5 ascending and reverse descending, where 1 is the thumb. Treat each note as one steady beat, with a rest between the two five-note patterns.

Choose C–D–E as the first fragment. Join E–F–G only after the first three notes feel comfortable. This original note pattern can replace the selected passage in the twenty-minute sequence.
