Daily Drill: Order of Operations (Foundations)

Mastering the order of operations isn't about memorizing a list—it's about building the muscle memory to see the structure of an equation before you touch your pencil.

The PEMDAS Priority #

  • 1.
    Parentheses (Grouping first)
  • 2.
    Exponents (Powers and roots)
  • 3.
MD Multiplication and Division (Left to right)
  • 4.
AS Addition and Subtraction (Left to right)

  • Worked Example #

    Problem:8+2×(53)28 + 2 \times (5 - 3)^2

  • 1.
    Inside Parentheses:(53)=2(5 - 3) = 2
  • 2.
    Exponents:22=42^2 = 4
  • 3.
    Multiply:2×4=82 \times 4 = 8
  • 4.
    Add:8+8=168 + 8 = 16Final Result:1616

  • Beat the Clock Drill #

Goal: 100% accuracy in under 120 seconds. If you miss one, reset the timer and start the sheet over.
