On this fictional local map, eastings increase right and northings increase up. Read across, then up. School (1,1), library (3,1), park (3,3), museum (1,3). One grid interval represents 100 metres. These are simple coordinate points for learning the across-then-up convention, not a full national six-figure map reference. Model school to library: two intervals east = 200 metres.
